Giant Killer AC Heritage—
The Z Filter
In 1990 an audio magazine asked Bruce Brisson if he could measure the reason that a certain electric alarm clock, when plugged into an AC receptacle, helped remove distortions from an audio system plugged into the same circuit.
Brisson determined that the capacitance of the transformer was shunting high frequency noise on the AC line to ground. Soon after, Brisson's parallel tuned circuit was designed and patented. A direct result of that project was the Z-Family of AC filtration products from MIT in 1991.
Since that time, audiophiles around the world, as well as professional sound and film studios including Lucas Film's world class scoring stage located at Skywalker Ranch, have purchased and continually continually use Z Filter products from MIT.
