The History of Do-It-Yourself Audio and An Introduction to Networked DIY Audio Cables
Audio cables, for the most part, do not have much of a DIY history, probably because anyone can purchase common everyday wire, strip it with wire strippers, and hook up their stereo system with it. But that is not sufficient for the high end audiophile. Something more was needed.
The audible effects of cables was first written about in the audiophile press in 1978 by Jean Hiraga of France, who first pointed out the importance of the quality of cables in audio systems.
By the late 1970’s, and into the early 1980’s, companies such as Fulton, Mogami, Mark Levinson and of course The Monster Cable Company began selling high end wire to the audiophile.
